PLEASE BUY MY NEW CD, IT'S FINALLY DONE! (Updated audio!)

Post by BradLyons »

For quite some time, I was working with some guys in Connecticut tracking their album and co-engieering it. I was not able to finish the work when I moved and re-located, but was a big part of this group and helping to get the CD project going. We spent YEARS on this project over-coming elements out of our control, and just trying to perfect the music. If you're looking for strong and I do mean STRONG musicianship that is highly unique and unlike anything you've heard before, then this CD is for you. Think of Dream Theatre, but more commercial, meets a movie score

To hear demo samples and purchase the CD, please see this link:

Thank you for your support! :-)

while not my genre of music, I listened to some of the tracks and must say the musicianship and the production quality are top notch. Nice job! 8)

Sounds great. I really do hear the Dream Theater influence in their songs. Good job.

Thanks for the comments thus far, it's been a LONG time and A LOT of work! Most of the songs range to about 80-100 tracks, the drums alone were an insane amount of tracks! ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING you can think of going wrong to get a project done---happened time and time again!

Trippy, I'm enjoying it. Tastefull use of panning. It creates a lot of motion. It's probably the sound the band was going for, but is everything supposed to be the same volume?

Good Job!

Thanks! Well, the thing about this style of music is every instrument is as important as the next. For example, the Toms are as important as the bass guitar just as important as the vocal is no greater than the keys, etc. The vocals aren't the lead here, but to compliment the music. Each song is really a story.....what you don't hear in these samples is just how drastic each song changes as the song goes along. I mean, we're talking time signatures changing every measure at times, different grooves and styles, etc. I left the CD at the office, I'll make an MP3 or two tomorrow for the full length of two songs and you'll really hear what I mean.

I can't wait to remix this in surround! ;-)

There was a video that they did in the studio showing how they understand their sections and how his drums were recorded. After watching it, I felt like quitting.....made me so sick of just how killer he is! LOL Or is that Portnoy? Hmmm

Yeah, Mike Portnoy is a killer drummer. If you go to Tama's site (I believe it's Tama's), it tells you his set up. He actually has 2 kits around him. He has a 5 piece to his right and then his "other" huge kit. He's admitted in interviews that if he was the one that had to set up his kit every night, he'd just go and get a basic 4 piece kit and be done with it, lol.

The MP3 samples on the CDBABY site only play the first few minutes of each song, but most of them get going past that. Here are a few clips in the middle to the end of a couple songs. I hope you like them, very orchestrated indeed and phenominal musicianship--then again, I'm biased! :-)

Very nice work, Brad. I've always been a fan of prog rock-- Yes, ELP, Genesis-- and to date myself a little, by sheer chance, I was one of about a dozen people who saw Kansas do their very first live performance (although they called themselves White Clover at that time.)

OK, now I'm jealous. Although I'm pretty sure I wasn't born, yet...

Livgren hasn't played with Kansas in years, but has started playing some again over the last couple of years. The White Clover/Kansas group that became famous was actually his second "Kansas" band. The first group, which first played much of what became the first Kansas album, disbanded in the early 70's. That group all went on to have "real jobs,' but have since reformed under the name Proto-Kaw (Kaw being a variation of the name Kansas.) I see that they'll be playing in KC in March.

There were earlier versions of "Kansas" in the 60's, one of which I understand included Mike Finnegan, who later became the longtime keyboardist for CSN, played on Electric Ladyland, and has been a mainstay as an LA session musician for many years. He's one of the best B3 players and singers around--but very bluesy/gospel, not prog rock. He comes back for a tour of Kansas every year, and always has a killer band.
