30" display WORKS with my dual 2.5ghz PPC video card

Post by Timeline »

Don't let em tell you differently.

BUT without the dual link DVI card it will only perform to half the monitors capable resolution so it's max with my card is 1280x800. Still, ••••ing great!

Refurbs on sale now on the DEALS linkApple store for 1/2 off the original asking price at $1699. SWEET!!

Hey, Timer

Waddup wit da wattup?
You lost me, dude; perhaps I'm in the Hudson somewhere.
I noticed you've already added the new love of your life to your sig.
Cool. 8)

EDIT: The Hudson thing's gone from your sig. Perhaps it had to make room for that massive new love of your life.

"You bugger" just meant I'm green with envy.
Not a good look for an ape of distinction.
Thankfully, therefore, this isn't applicable in my case.

Cheers, G.
Nicky

PS: I've done some browsing on the video card question, unfortunately to no avail.
No wonder the Q was posted; it's a mountain of conjecture and confusion out there.
Monkey's brain's filled with much the same stuff, but without the conjecture!

Hey MM. If ur ever up here I buy the ale, ok? So.....

I ordered the 30" along with a card the genius mac phone sales guy said I needed after looking up the serial number of my mac to make sure.

Monitor cam and card too. Card was E machine not AGP. Sent it back but tried to order card for my machine. After a half hr on phone mac sales guy admitted they don't sell the card for my one year old G5 PPC. F___ING surprise to be sure.

Anyway, monitor came in and out of pure curiosity, I plugged it in to my single port DVI and guess what... It worked on a SINGLE DVI PORT card, not dual link like they claimed was required.

In the original 30" unveiling, Steve Jobs demo'd the monitor showing only half of it working. well I'm here to tell ya it all lit up at half the resolution but the damn thing looks great anyway. hehe.... so that's what I'm talkin bout.

ya know, unless your doing hi end graphics or gaming you don't need but a single link DVI

Cheers,

You're a maverick, Timer; well done.

Seems there's not much on the 'net about this, as I looked for quite a while.
When I can afford one, I want 2.
By that time, if they don't already, I reckon the Intel macs should be able to drive both at full res, straight OTB.
That's gonna be heaven.

Enjoy yours, you bugger (sorry!)
The ale sounds real nice. :D

Don't know about a Mav but It also worked on my laptop DVI port. Specs below.

I think the laptop to 30" is really something to behold. Wow!

PCI-X card minimum to drive a 30" Apple HD Display/full

Post by greg328 »

Can anybody else confirm the minimum graphics card specs for a 1st Gen. G5--PCI-X card to drive a 30" Apple HD display at full resolution (2560 X 1600)?

I've heard that ATI Radeon 9650 or NVIDIA GeFORCE 6800 GT DDL will do it. My current card is a Radeon 9600 and it only does half-resolution...

Remember, I need PCI-X, not PCI-E...

Thanks,
Greg...

It will only drive it at half resolution unless you have a dual link nVidia 9600 DVI 4x/8x card specifically made for x slot and the Apple 30". None available until end of year per manufacturer and Apple dosen't have them either. They are rerunning the obsolete card because of demand.

But... if I were you, I wouldn't worry about that.Wait for the card at about, $230 bucks. You can use the 30" monitor like I am at lower resolution until it is available.

That is if you can find a deal. Apple store is sold out of the refurbs.

Good luck.

What about the 2 cards I mentioned? Aren't those PCI-X cards, capable of driving the 30" at full resolution?

By the way, it IS the end of the year... :)

End 'o' year... Yess indeedee.

No, two cards won't work. Need both DVI links as part of one plug. Maybe a brainy Mac tech could make it work, i donno.

LOL!!! I didn't mean to use both cards simultaneously! :)

I just read that those each support 30" ACD at full res..

Anyhoo, I just dropped $300 at MicroCenter on an ATI Radeon X800 XT-Mac Edition-AGP.

Jeez, this is getting expensive...

:)
