Shooting video using DP 4.5, Traveler

Post by Jed Leland »

I am going to be shooting location DV and would like to multitrack the audio, using at least 4 external mikes, the stereo camera mike, a Traveler and DP4.5 to sync it all up.

How do I get started? Where can I look for instructions? I've not been able to penetrate the DP 4.5 manual so far to figure this out.

I think you are gonna need an external SMPTE generator to sync it all up.

You can free roll quite a long time. My suggestion is that you use the camera mic to get sync only and not in the final mix. If the camera and DP drifts just a little you may hear it on the audia way before you can see it in the picture.

Use a clap and the audio on the camera to sync up the start and and end clap too see how much drift you have. You should really use the camera audio track for this.

Do not use too long scenes.

I took a shot of the timecode display of DP at the start an end of scene
easy to find corresponding scenes in postpro
so depending how your location setup is it might help
i found DV and DP have quite a stable sync runnig free
