Izotope DDLY Dynamic Delay free through April 2.

It's a bit strange—nothing else quite like it. And the washed out interface... who knows what the hell they were thinking? Isotope offered it as a freebie when it was introduced and it's free again for a couple of days. I can't see paying the regular price of $49 but free? If you only use it once, it's worth the effort.

Vinyl is always free. I know someone who swears by it on drums. Ok...

I like Vinyl. It has come in handy a couple of times when I needed to create audio for a period piece and needed a convincing low-fi sound. I guess if a person had a nostalgia for lo-fi drum sounds, it would make sense- probably evokes a bygone era.

That album had left my memory. What a lovely band with a rare baritone (?) lead vocalist. That drum effect was pretty effective.

Volko Audio free NTI Nightpro EQ3D EQ emulation

Posted: Wed Apr 26, 2017 3:25 pm
by Basstrup
Volko Audio has released Q3D, an emulation of the NTI Nightpro EQ3D rack mount equalizer.
This 6 band eq has an extremely wide Q. One of the bands is AIR that is a hi shelf filter. You can change the AIR frequency and boost. It has a modern, easy-to-use user interface. In the past, it has been used for very famous recordings and generally for vocals.
Q3D features six bands. The first four peaking bands have the center frequencies 10 Hz (SUB), 40 Hz, 160 Hz and 650 Hz. Each band is 2.5 octaves wide. The fifth high-frequency shelving band has a cutoff frequency of 2.5 kHz.
The sixth "air" band is a -boost only- high-frequency shelf with five selectable cutoff frequencies:
2.5 kHz.
5 kHz.
10 kHz.
20 kHz.
40 kHz.
The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -15 dB to 15 dB on all bands except the air band which has an amount of boost that is continuously variable from 0 dB to 20 dB.
More:
Extremely High Processing Efficiency.
Proprietary topology which is optimized for low latency, low noise and high dynamic range.
Supports sampling frequencies up to 384 kHz.
Clickless parameter update.

free stereo width tool

Using three basic basic systems:
1. A fixed frequency EQ designed to lift the highest audio frequencies, and boost the bass.
2. A stereo width unit, for expanding stereo sounds so they appear wider and fatter. At extreme levels other characteristics are also brought out of the sound, so this can also be used as a tonal control for individual instruments. This also has a mono setting, useful for squashing up those aggressive samples that take over the mix.
3. A Loud switch that raises the waveform to the limits in a smooth curve. This saturation gives the mix a more perceived loudness, without clipping.
There's also an option for overdriving this effect, distorting the waveform towards the maximum, and can be used to create a raw punch to the sound.

These stages create an overall loudness effect on the final output, so a gain control is included to keep the limits in check.

The main 'bubble' display on the plug-in is really a basic meter, when one of the stereo halves flash red, then the output is being clipped. Try and keep the levels so the red flashes only occasionally, this enables the loudness control to work at its maximum.

Colour and light changes are achieved by dragging the central meter-ball, using ctrl or shift to flow through colours. Maximum right/up drag returens the colour to white.

There was a bug fix on this very quickly

We fixed an important bug for Q3D. Please update your version of Q3D to 1.0.1.

Thank you for the tip, this looks like a nice plugin.

BTW, grab this soon, the website states that it will be free until June 8th.

Well, someone on the Native Instrument's "Maschine" forum posted that they saw this on the Ableton forum, so I'm sharing it here! :D

This is a post highlighting eight free VST's. The last one is a nice loudness meter, and there are other useful and/or interesting ones also. Not sure if they all work on Macs.

Thanks, Elio - the "Diffuse" plugin is a very interesting take on combining reverb with delay. And it is indeed free until June 8.
