Guys, I believe this discussion is over. MacGuy, earlier in the thread I agreed with you that if one could wait, the thunderbolt option would probably be the better way to go, but having said that, I saw no reason to repeat it later. People need to discuss what they need to discuss. Someone needed something now, and probably has no need for a new Mac Pro in order to use Thunderbolt. Magma is a perfectly fine option for him. I do not know what is your grudge against that company (nor do I want to know, at this point), but you gotta give this a rest! Let people say what they need to, please. You may think people aren't hearing you, or that they missed your posts, or whatever, but I assure you that they heard you the first time, considered your input (and mine) and continued to discuss what was important to them. That's as it should be.
Most of us have a pet peeve or two; it's just part of forum manners that we have to suck it up now and then and let people discuss what they want, even when we "know" they're making a mistake. They're really not making a mistake; they're making an informed choice for reasons they do not have to explain. So, please, give it a rest. I enjoy your input elsewhere. Focus on where you can make a difference.

PS: If it helps, there have been times when I've done the same thing and beat a dead horse into the ground. We all get a free pass now and then. Don't use them all up in the same place.

Re: PCIe EXPANSION CHASSIS????
I fund drobo slow and cumbersome. I have the same issue. You know, there are onboard sata ports on the motherboard of the mac pro. I am thinking of taking my 5 terabyte JBOD eSata out of the pci slot, and plugging it directly onto the motherboard to free up a slot, for perhaps trying an SSD pci solution for super fast streaming samples and boot.

I don't know if you mac has them. you can check.
Expanssion chassis are expensive, but, well, whatt r you gonna do. I was looking into them as well. Last one I had was 15 years ago or more for my six sample cell cards!
