Dynamic EQ:

yeah, gotta admit, I'm wondering whether I'll have much use for Waves C6 anymore, the Dynamic EQ has some major advantages. For one thing, Dynamic EQ has full control over the bell shape over each individual filter. C6 gives you two standard parametric EQs, but the rest are frequency bands with crossovers. In some situations, one could do a lot more detailed sculpting with the MOTU Dynamic EQ than with C6. However, C6 still has the better interface, and likely the ARC release is superior to MOTUs shaping.

What I'd like to see from Waves is some kind of sick cross between H-EQ and C6... full control over all filters, including the exact type of bell shape. I think that would pretty much kill any other multiband out there.

The ARC release is why I use most of the Waves plugins that I use. It's just so much easier and faster than going through and setting attacks and releases by ear, and somehow they manage to make it sound good in all situations. MOTU's dynamics plugins do not always sound good on releases, and it takes me a lot of experimenting to get them right. Waves plugs just bypass all of that. Set the threshold, set the gain, and you're done. Well… there's much more to the C6, but at least you don't have to worry about releases unless you want to.

Still, I'm with you: I may end up liking the Dynamic EQ better than the C6. We'll see about that.

I fail to see how the two relate to each other. WAVES' ARC feature stands for "Auto Release Control" (i.e., compressor release time). MOTU's Noiseshaping changes the sound/character of Dither. They're really not related at all.

By the way, I almost always have ARC enabled when using WAVES compressors. I think it works very well.

I ordered DP7 after NAMM and am told I will get 8 at no extra charge.

When logging into my user account, I see that I am registered for 7 and that, for $195, I can upgrade to D 8. Hmmmm... I am hoping that they just haven't gotten around to me yet.

I wonder... How much time should I give them before asking when it's my turn?

Call 'em. Have your registration number ready, and if you have a receipt, have that handy, too. Don't wait. They're probably not "getting to you." Speak, and you shall have.

In the past, MOTU has always honored such agreements. They refunded about $35 a few years ago because they accidentally double charged me and it resulted in an overdraft and fee from my bank. I didn't even have to ask for it.

All the technical mishmash aside, MOTU is a truly great company to deal with. Their products ain't so bad either.
