sudden volume changes in loops (ETHNO)

Post by qsource »

I'm using Ethno in ProTools (7.1 cs8 on Mac OSX 10.4.6) and I'm triggering loops every 2-4 bars. Unfortunately, even if I keep the MIDI velocity the same, the loops randomly get louder or softer on various triggers. I can't find any pattern to when this happens.

I've tried triggering as Immediate, Next Note and Next Bar without any improvement. I've tried isolating a single Ethno channel/instrument and this does not change this behavior.

Anyone else notice this? Any fix or workaround?

If you are manually triggering the loops, then anytime you "overlap" your triggering you are double-triggering samples which would definitely cause a "jump" in volume. Have you quantized your MIDI track data so there are no overlapping notes?

In other words, unless your timing is perfectly quantized, 100%, and your MIDI notes do not overlap, the volume jumps will happen.

Thanks, David. I'll check that out.
