Hi
I'm looking to improve my extenal drive use.
When I power up my system (such as it is) the external Lacie drive also fires up. I immediately eject it as it's noise bugs me. I mount it later when it's needed to backup my days work.
Can I create a power up/startup situation where the Lacie won't fire up, so I don't have to shut it down as soon as I've started a session? ie where it wont be 'seen' by my powerbook.
Cheers

External Drive @ power up - question

Does your LaCie not have a power button? I know that some HDs do not have on/off switches.
One thing I've done is to route the A/C of my external hard drives into a separate power strip from some of the rest of my equipment. This way when I turn on my main surge supressor/power supply, my computer and monitor will boot up but my HDs remain off until I flip on the power strip to which they are connected.
It's a bit of a homespun solution, but hey-- it's one way around the issue.
