As far as label recognition goes, you are right that most 13 year-olds would probably not know what Apple records is. But times have changed. In the 60'2 and 70's, record companies functioned quite differently in the music business-- before corporate take-overs and conglomerates, etc. Today, there may be fewer larger record companies, but that is offset by the resulting countless numbers of independant labels, most of which none of us could name.

In that light, the music business has evolved. No one could foresee anything we refer to broadband or the internet. Back when Apple vs Apple first settled on the computer company not getting involved in the music business as it was defined then, most people's understanding of what a computer was was more akin to a UNIVAC-- a large room full of mainframes the size of refrigerators.

Computers and consumers were two words which never went together until WAY after the original lawsuit.

I agree. The old rules just don't apply any more. Apple Records' best strategy is to continue their foray into the 21st century, and to get up to speed with today's music distribution trends and marketing needs-- and to bring all the bickering to a halt.
