Strange plugin problem

Post by GMarcelK »

I'm facing a weird problem: All motu's own plugins don't show the numbers in the plugin window. So for example the Dynamics plugin doesn't give me my ratio. The plugin works, I can turn the knobs, but cannot 'read' them.

Anybody knows what I can do about this?

One more thing: My MW Equalizer plugin doesn't have a name anymore. It's in the plugin list, appearing as an empty line...
some weird things...

I get this bug each time I don't turn power in proper order :
For my system : Mac, then usb soundcard1, then firewire souncard2, then run DP4.6.
DP dislike very much any audio hardware change (power on or off) while running.

I tried everything till OS re-install, DP re-install, to not avail. :(

I finaly found a trick :

Download a little free OSX utility called OnYx
http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Choose and download accordingly to your OS (Panther or Tiger)
Install it.
On cleaning page, just run the font-buffer cleaning, reboot and voila.
All your plugins are back and working !

Tell us if this is working for your system

Good sounds on you !

dude, U need to say more. Have U installed junk lately? Messed with fonts? Upgraded anything? What's your system config?

My system is a Dual 1.8G5, 10.4.6, 1,25GB Ram, no Junk.

The only thing I have installed recently is probably a bundel of freeware plugins (digitalfishphones).

Can I re-install DP from the CD?

How can reset the settings of DP, and probably have DP rescan my plugins?

Do a topic search on this site. Seems to me this issue arises in non-English-language versions of DP and requires some sort of language or font wrangling. I can't remember the solution though.

I use english DP4.61 and french OSX.
But I don't feel language is related to this issue. Who knows ?

But shure this issue comes up each time I make unusual changes in hardware - powering on or off my audio cards - while DP is up.

Whenever possible I even avoid opening a DP project with a missing soundcard, if this one was used for this last saved project.
I have red on his forum DP is very picky about hardware type of things. That's also what I experiment.
By the way I had no issue at all by the days I was using only one single Motu 828 soundcard.

Repairing permission, trashing preference, re-intsalling DP is no cure to this issue.

But font-buffer cleaning with OnYx and reboot is a quick and good workaround on my system.

What's next ?

Get rid of iSight or at least disable it. My recent quirks started up again-- and I'd forgotten that when I updated to OS 10.4.5 a few weeks ago, I'd forgotten to disable the newer version of iSight and Widgets. Tossed these out and quirks stopped immediately.

What is font-buffer cleaning and how does it work?

I don't use iSight...

I use Dutch OSX and English DP, is that a reasonable cause?
I don't mind going to English OSX. Can I change that somewhere?

I changed my OSX language to English and that solved the problem.

The real words are "font-caches cleaning".
This is done very quickly by an utility named OnyX
free download at
http://www.titanium.free.fr

it offers several maintenance utlilities
I use it almost every day
it helps keeping my system clean and responsive

Good to know you're out of this issue.
