Evolution 249c USB Keyboard and Dp 4.61
Hi All,
I'm having trouble getting my Evolution 249c to work with DP4.61 directly through the USB port in my powerbook. The idea being that it can be used as a live synth module aswell as recording ideas etc.
I've read through the evolution instructions and have set the keyborad up correctly. I've read the info on the motu website and its pretty light on. I can get the MIDI keyboard working through my MIDI Express but want it to work direct. The keyboard appears in the USB information when I go About This Mac/More inforation so I know that the comptuer is seeing it, and because I've added it to the audio/MIDI set up it with the MIDI express its appearing as a possible output from all the MIDI channels in DP but cant seem to get an input signal to drive the MIDI instruments in DP.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Is any one using a usb keyboard direct into a usb port succesfully to drive there virtual synths etc surely lots of people are and I'm just missing something?

This is starting to look like a DP issue, perhaps? I have the same problem with my USB CME controller. MIDI monitor shows activity, but the input only shows a dashed line.
To the community at large, are there workarounds for this? Will this issue be addressed in DP5? Are there particular USB controllers that always work?
Thank you

I have a Evolution usb 361 and it works great in DP4.61
Even now I use a Novation usb X-Station 61 wich keys feel better to my fingers.
If you only let it appear in audio-MIDI setup, it does NOT hook to DP.
In MIDI-audio setup, you must create a new device and connect it by draging the 2 arrows from and to your Evolution keyboard appearing.
This is the strange way usb devices connect.
Does this make sense to you ?
Good connection

i have an edirol pcr-m1...and connected directly to my pb usb or via a hub, it works fine...
i didn't have to do any setup other than driver install that i can remember, it just shows up in audio MIDI devices, and then works in dp.
maybe something to try in dp is to autosetup MIDI devices...?
i also have an evolution 249c, and i will give that a shot and let you know. i only got the edirol fairly recently, so i'm sure the evolution worked okay also (i got the edirol cause i just wanted something a little smaller).
---edit ---
just to let you know, i got home, and tried the mk-249c...it worked like a champ. showed up in audio/MIDI setup with no drivers...i haven't used this unit since i built my machine last.
also, i changed NOTHING in DP...it just automatically used it as an input (i didn't even have to select anything on the track itself...i just hit record, and away i went...
the evolution is bus-powered through a targus chill hub, with a mighty mouse and my msi dongle also plugged in (the chill hub draws power from my pb...i'm not using the external ps for it).

I just red this info from "bigfurry" :
- Choose "Add New External Device" from the MIDI Devices menu [in audio-MIDI setup], and double-click the "new external device" to open its Device Properties window.
- For Device Name, type "Keystation Pro 88". [let's say "249c" in your case]
- Hit Apply and close the Device Properties window.
- Draw a connection in and out of this device to the keyboard that originally appeared (the one with the ports on the bottom).
You should now see a Pro 88 [or "249c" in your case] as a MIDI controller input to your MIDI trax in DP. "
This did the trick!
Thankyou for your reply, and maybe this can help others with usb issues.
Yours,
sean
