Really Interesting new MIDI Controller

Post by James Steele »

This looks pretty cool:

It looks like a little display screen but with buttons and encoders that pop up through the screen so you can have different labels and templates appear around the encoders and buttons so it can be customized to whatever plugin/synth you are currently adjusting. This looks very cool!

Neat. It seems like an evolved Mackie C4 controller.

Were they able to make a glass display with holes and rotary push encoders poking through them? That's crazy!

It looks that way. It's a French company and it's just a prototype, but I could see this as having a lot of potential.

Rotary encoders are particular good when you want configurable resolution and range, particularly for 14-bit CC/NRPN, etc. And, theoretically, you could have useful non-linear (speed based) knob ballistics that feel natural.

If they lunge forward with some MIDI 2.0 implementation that would future-proof it significantly.

In addition to making 14-bit CC easier, I'd really love to see devices like this include audio inputs with pitch and level tracking-- so that a user could feed an audio signal (or two) and have the device convert those into either pitch or data streams for CC control.
