audio inputs gone... RESOLVED

so if i'm using dp 11.03 Then i can plug my guitar, mike, external synths into my presonus, route them into dp assign an audio track and record away.
If i'm using DP 11.31 the audio doesn't appear in dp at all, no level no sound.
All is well with the presonus, no change in level etc, it just doesn't appear in DP 11.3
what should i do to resolve this?
The workaround is to do all my recording in dp11.03 then export the files and import them into 11.3 but i shouldn't have to do this.
I'm on Mac os 12.21

Is DP 11.31 enabled in System Settings>Privacy and Security>Microphone?

I vaguely remember getting bit by this.

Unbelievable that DP doesn't present a modal saying "you need to enable this in settings".
