Here's where to talk about preamps, cables, microphones, monitors, etc.

Audio analyzer tools (DM-RTA) or ...?

Post by Rob Ainscough »

I have a new 828 (2024 version) and I do 5.1 audio work for video creation and in the past I used a rather simple method to balance the 6 channels. That method was place Microphone with dB reader display on a tripod where listening location will be, have my PC generate pink noise, and measure the dB level for each monitor tested one at a time. I don't have the luxury to measure out monitor placements unfortunately (get close enough).

I would adjust the audio interface and/or monitors to get to a balanced level across 6 channels.

I was looking possible alternatives such as the a DM-RTA unit

I like the fact that it can measure actual voltage also and record to app ... don't know if it support distance input for each monitor location so as to compensate? Is this really a good device for setting up 5.1 audio? (later plans for Atmos).

Cheers, Rob.
