Running DP 11 on vintage MacBook Air early 2015 - assistance request

Post by Oddur G »

Hi Motunation fellows.

Is there anyone on Motunation who has experience running DP 11 on the MacBook Air early 2015 i5

Background:

I've been using my MacBook Air early 2015 using DP 9.52 and a Motu 828 x to record my band on location for quite a few years recording 8-14 tracks simultaneously and then a few overdubs. I then opened the projects in my main computer in my studio to mix and perhaps do minor overdubs. This has worked well for me as I was also running DP 9 on my studio computer

I upgraded my studio computer in 2022. It's a Mac Studio M1 Max with 32 GB ram and a OWC SDX mini stack and installed DP 11.

I'm finding it problematic to go back and forth with DP, importing DP 9 projects in to DP11 and then exporting back to DP 9 when I have to go back on site with my band and add tracks or do overdubs.

I'm not eager to invest in a new Lap top for my portable rig and am wondering if the MacBook Air would handle DP 11.

Thanks
Oddur

Short answer: Yes.

I have no problem running DP 11.3 over Catalina on my 2012 MBP. Ok, compared to my M2 Studio, it's a bit slow and can't handle as many tracks or VIs but it works—I tested the included Melodyne 5 Essential on that setup just last week.

I also have a user running Performer Lite 11.23 over Monterey on a 2014 Mini i5 with only 4GB RAM.
