Nice stand for my iPad running MOTU AVB Discovery app

Post by James Steele »

Just wanted to share my find with the community. I wanted to find a stand to set on my desk so I could control the MOTU Discovery App on my iPad (9th generation). I searched Amazon for quite a while and decided on this one and I'm pretty glad I did. Here's the Amazon link:

https://a.co/d/izXDMzY

It just arrived today. It was $29.99 so not the cheapest stand, but I'm very happy with the stability and sturdiness of the stand. It has a pretty solid base. The footprint of the base is 5 7/8" x 5 7/8" so fits fine on my desk. Again, even with the arm extended outward and lowered, it's very stable and sturdy.

Here are some pics below. Right now, I'm using it mostly to mute/unmute hardware synth modules connected to my 24Ai as well as adjust the volumes. Sadly, even when using an Aux channel in DP there's still latency. (Oh how I sometimes miss Direct Hardware Playthough on my old PCIe-424 based system.) And no, I'm not using the MacPro5,1 in the background of the first pic. Poor thing is just taking up space until I figure out what. to do with it. For giggles I may set up a VEP server on it as an experiment. Haven't decided.

Bottom line: I'm very happy with this stand and can recommend it.

Fixed the last picture... somehow the base was cropped out previously.

Geez... I'm glad I posted this. Notice anything funny about that last fader on the iPad? That's the output from Digital Performer... my MAIN DAW output that I'm monitoring. Look at the EQ graph!!! What the heck?

You when I tapped the graph, somehow I had a high-pass filter engaged on my main DAW output???

And for how long? Fortunately down where it is, it probably didn't have too much effect, but I'm going to disengage that and see how my monitoring sounds (with and without ARC3). I don't even know if that might have been set when I took the measurements for ARC3. Not that big a deal as things have changed in my room and I was planning to do it again... but still!! YIKES!!!

That's really nice. It is certainly classier than my iPad stand.

It never occurred to me to place it over a towel rack nut IKEA thinks it's a good idea.

Actually I was looking at similar designs and I almost bought one, but the problem was I needed to minimize the footprint, so one that had a square base would fit on my desk better.

So....A while back I went and got a Desklab 4k touch screen that runs like a monitor on the Mac connected via USB-C....but then I use TouchBase touch software to make the MacOS work that way. And it gives me this.

but it is a simple metal frame that can adjusted for its pitch angle and width.

The versatility of being able to adjust its angle and width really allowed me to make it sit exactly the way I wanted.

Nice!! I need something better than what I’ve been using for my Avid S3.
