RANT: I hate the new thicker blue insertion cursor in TextEdit

Post by James Steele »

I don't know if this was meant to be a visual aid, but in TextEdit (and maybe other apps?) the insertion cursor is blue and thicker and often it's difficult to see exactly where it is. Is it to the left or right of the comma, for example?

Anyway... just a little rant. Carry on. Maybe there's a way to turn that off?

I've noticed the same thing. It could just be my imagination but I think I've seen in other apps as well. I had thought it was a Sonoma bug. :?
But I agree. I hate it as well.

I offer suggestions to Apple (via Feedback) about fixing things they have broken-- 100% of which are ignored.

No one: "You should make the cursor more difficult to see & use."

Apple: "DONE!"

I think a lot of GUI design is done by people under 30 with perfect eyesight. One of the worst I've ever seen was a recent iteration of Native Access that had navy blue text on a black background. Unforgivable. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and they changed it.

And another thing! Industrial designers that put black buttons on black equipment! The worst offenders are video equipment manufacturers. Equipment that, by default, is often operated in dimly lit spaces like control rooms! :mumble:

This especially gets my bile in a boil because I use TextEdit, probably more than any other app besides Mail.
