Anyone using the MacBook Air M2?

Post by Phil O »

I'm considering purchasing a MacBook Air M2. There is another topic here where the OP is having performance issues with this computer and DP. That topic has become heated, so I'm posting my question here.
My question is simple. Has anyone else here (who owns a Macbook Air M2) had performance issues in DP on this computer and if so, what issues? It would help me in my purchasing decision if you report that you're having no issues as well.

thank you,

I don't have an M2 but we do have a MacBook Air M1 8GB RAM that my wife uses in her work and I use for testing. Don't load large DP projects on it but I can't break it at all.

I'm looking at getting a new laptop and the only one I am considering is the M2 MacBook Air, The reason is that the M1 uses a USB-C charging cable while the M2 went back to MagSafe like my 2012 MBP. I want that cable to fall away when there's any strain.

The M1 and M2 are quite a bit the same, especially the power cores. The M2 makes better use of the efficiency cores but the big improvement is in the GPU. As for audio projects, I can't believe there is much of a difference but AV, yes. As impressed as I am with 8GB Unified RAM (very!), anything I buy will have more.

Tom's Guide gives a decent overview.

Only MainStage on my 16GB M1 Air. DP has been awesome on my 64GB M1 Studio.

One point: Apple Return Policy... try after you buy, (possibly) return after you learn.

Thanks, guys. The poster in the other thread was suggesting that only the M2 "portables" had the problem. I was checking to see if anyone with a MacBook Air M2 (specifically) had any issues.
I think the lack of response from M-A M2 owners tells me this is a non-issue and I should bite the bullet and place my order. Wish me luck.
And thanks again for the feedback. 8)
