select multiple Soundbite Clips - RESOLVED

Post by Jim »

I have 9 audio tracks. I have Soundbites I've edited, and want to highlight / select them as you see here in blue. I can Click one track, and then Shift-Click the other eight Clips to highlight all of them, but is there a way to drag over them to select them?

I've learned I can select multiple clips by Control-Option dragging over the ENDS (head or tail) of multiple Clips, but I haven't found a way to do it when they're overlapping other clips as you see here.

You can create a group and/or use the lasso tool.

When I do that, it selects the selection, plus all the layers below. The blue Soundbites in my attachment were merged on top of existing tracks. I want to select the Front layers so I can slip and slide them. See attachment. I lassoed from the empty track on the bottom over the Soundbites in the center, and you can see it selected the underlying Soundbites as well.

Plus, I have to enable an empty track with the Track Selector just to be able to drag a lasso/cursor across the tracks I want to select. Otherwise, it drags the Soundbite if I start dragging on a Soundbyte.

What am I missing?

You can also enable just the soundbites in the view filter before selecting.

I'm not sure what's going on with your lassoing. Try creating a group and selecting one of the soundbites. You should be able to slide the top layer wherever you want.

OK, I see what you mean now. I already had those nine tracks assigned to a Group, but I had "Selection" disabled. Now that I've enabled "Selection," when I click on one part of the overlayed Soundbites, they all highlight as I want.

I don't always want to highlight all tracks. Every now and then, I will select, say, part of a snare or tom bite to Split so that I can increase the volume of one wimpy hit. I can Disable the Group when I want to do that.

Thank you!

Cool! I’d suggest getting to know the enable/disable group shortcut it’ll be your best friend, editing audio. Also, notice the custom group options. You can tailor groups to different tasks. EG, you might want to just have a group for editing, and not affecting automation or record enabling…
