Mod Wheel Data in track suddenly does not affect the virtual instrument -but my MIDI Keyboard does!

Who has solved this problem?:
All of a sudden....Mod Wheel data in the track does not affect the BBC orc plugin inside Vienna Ensemble Prio (run locally). if I record enable that track, the virtual instrument DOES respond to my MIDI keyboard's Wod Wheel.
Usual suspects led nowhere:
Was automation selected in Track View? Yes.
Was Input Filter wide open and filtering nothing? Yes
Was MIDI Thgru ON - Yes

Before I begin a fullon investigation: Does the problem occur on other projects , Multis, different instruments, locally hosted vs VEP, different Mac, deleting preferences, checking for Chechin hackers under the hood... - the whole catastrophe! [as Kazantzakis put it] - Is there a simple answer?

I feel I must have just clicked something without noticing!
