Can the 828x switch sample rate automatically when clocked external?

Post by ghostdad »

I upgraded to 16a. Would love to run my good old 828x via ADAT. I have it clocked to external, and when I open a new session in 44.1/48 the 16a responds in kind by switching to the sample rate of my session.

The 828x however shows a blinking 44.1 AND 48k light on the front. If I switch via the on screen menu, it appears to find sync.

I have the 828x set to clock externally. Have tried with ADAT and Wordclock as the clock source.

I did this for years with my 828x and 828MKii never had to give it a second though.

Shouldn't be a problem but the solution will depend on the rest of your setup. There are many possibilities.

If you search the word, clock ,in the manual, you'll find 196 mentions. Scroll through them to find the ones that apply to your setup.

You may have to get into the 16a manual also.

Both are still current interfaces from MOTU. You can send a Techlink asking for help but I'd go through the manuals first as that should help refine the question.

Finally remembered to check this out and no it does not work for me.
In my setup, the 828x is clocked via BNC by a Ferrofish Pulse 16 at 44.1Khz.

Got the exact same results as you did.
Switching it to 48Khz makes the MOTU lose sync and both the 44.1 and 48k lights start blinking. It won't sync until I switch the sample rate to 48Khz in Motu Audio Setup on the Mac. But if I change the Ferrofish back to 44.1Khz, the MOTU syncs back up. Tried it clocked over both ADAT and BNC, same results either way.
