Traveler (mk 1) + MOTU 828 Mk 1 via ADAT on Monterey?
I use Traveler on my M1 MacBook with Monterey. I'm thinking of buying an old 828 just the get more inputs via ADAT. Since I am totally unexperienced with ADAT I'd like to ask if anyone are using this combination with ok results? Do I need the 828 to work through a driver anyway or is just the ADAT connection enough?

It depends. They both use the same driver so that’s not an issue.
If using to get an additional 8 inputs via ADAT, you may be able to get by with an optical cable unless…
If there are timing issues such as the extender drifting out of sync, it may be better to daisy chain via FireWire and set up as an Aggregate Device so that you can control through one Clock. That is if either has two FW jacks. I know the 828mkII and 3 do but I don’t know about the Traveller or 828 Gen 1.
If daisy chain isn’t possible, you can also run the other through a pair of Apple adapters into another TB3 port or both into a TB4 port if you have a TB4 hub.
Hopefully, an optical cable does the trick for you.

Sounds good, the Traveler has two FW ports, 828 just one. So daysychaining is possible, and I don't need an ADAT connection I suppose. Thank you so much for your help!

You want to read CONNECTING MULTIPLE MOTU FIREWIRE INTERFACES pg 35.larsmagnus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 12:11 am Sounds good, the Traveler has two FW ports, 828 just one. So daysychaining is possible, and I don't need an ADAT connection I suppose. Thank you so much for your help!

The multiple adapters required to hook FW up to a TB3 port do not supply enough bus power, an issue for the Traveller only. If you do not already have an external power supply, you will find that there are a wide variety that will work.

Re: Traveler (mk 1) + MOTU 828 Mk 1 via ADAT on Monterey?
I have bought the 828 (30$...) and it`s in a good working condition.
I use Traveler with power connected, not from bus power in this setup. Thanks for the remark, anyway...
The 828 show up in MOTU AUdio setup, but not in Cuemix Fx... Shouldn´t it?
I have created a aggregated device.
When I test to choose that in Logic it works well on travellers channels ,but there is no sound when i choose a 828 channel (from 15-up). I can see on the 828 that it has input...
When I choose just 828 as an input device in Logic there is no problem.
Have I missed something?
