Hmmmm...

Microsoft (Office)
Adobe
AVID (Sibelius)
iZotope
Bitwig
now Waves…

All have tried pulling permanent licenses in favor of Subscription, then walked it back. Adobe and Sibelius make it very hard to find their permanent licenses but it's not impossible.

Who's next?

I'm not dead set against subscriptions and have a few where it is more cost effective to maintain them.

I predict Native Instruments is next in line to give it a serious go expanding their current toe in the water Komplete Now concept with more tiers. iZotope will also more aggressively push / expand their “producer’s club” or whatever they call it too I bet.

Both are being marketed together now so who knows?

I was one of many who pushed back hard on iZotope's first subscription model asking, "What does this give me that I don't have already?"

"Uh… nothing."

Yep, that. They keep telling me that I can upgrade to the Everything Bundle for $199. But… I already have everything.

So…. Isn’t WUP just another way of charging for a subscription?

Sort of. But with a subscription your plugs don’t work when the subscription term expires. You can go years without paying WUP, unless you update MacOS to a version that “breaks” the plugs.
