MIDI F# is cueing next chunk, but not in commands

Post by stubbsonic »

When I press an F#2 on my MIDI keyboard, DP 11 switches to the next Chunk.

I opened COMMANDS, and I don't see any MIDI events assigned. I looked at Next Chunk and there is no MIDI Event assigned there.

If I disable the General Master or the Master Master, it disables this action.

I disabled the OPTION-F which was the key command to see if MIDI Note F#2 was invoking a keystroke somehow, but that didn't do anything.

Where else should I be looking. I don't have any macro programs installed on my new MBP yet.

This is a weird one, because I know you're not a noob, and this F# thing has cropped up a bazillion times over the years. I'm not ignoring your problem but I'm stumped, especially because you've tried the usual troubleshooting steps.

Not happening in 11.21 here. I can make it happen, and turn it off as expected. Do you have any MIDI Events at all in the Commands window? If so, could there be some obscure secondary effect of another command?

Yea, this is a weird one!

I went through ALL the commands, and there aren't any MIDI events set up in there at all.

And NEXT CHUNK didn't have one, and even if I removed the default assignment (F4, I think) it still did it. So weird.

I always have to delete this MIDI event on new projects in the commands window. Its under the Category "Chunk Selection" , then Seq-1, then delete F#2. By the way, this didn't show up when I searched using the word chunk in the commands window. You must scroll down to it.

Interesting. Well spotted. Never saw this before. It's there in DP 11, not on my main audio Mac where I customized all the commands, but it is on my laptop where I just let DP decide what the shortcuts are. So it will only change the live sequence if you are not already in Seq-1. But what a weird thing -- why would you ever want this as a default?

I also noticed a Command called "Add Chunk Selection Commands Automatically". Looks guilty to me -- another lurking disaster, but at least it's not assigned.

Thanks, Lane, Bayswater, & Cuttime.

That must have been it, but when I went to check it, there wasn't a MIDI event. Still, somehow, it is fixed now. I didn't have the "Add Chunk Selections Commands Automatically" checked, but still that must have been what was happening.

It's one of those things were it "fixed itself" so you have that slightly unsatisfied feeling of wondering if it will crop up again. Need to add these things to my notes.
