Anyone using Firefox on an M1 machine?

Post by cuttime »

I prefer Firefox over most browsers because of a few extension I just can't do without. The latest update (108.0.1) seems to really screw it up on my machine. My wife still uses an Intel Mac, and it is perfectly fine there. The problem is that all of my tabs are piled on top of each other, and they are bracketed with arrows, making it impossible to see what tab is active. I tried reinstalling it to no avail.

Probably won't help much, but I'm on the same (latest) Firefox version, and OS 12.6.2, and am not having that problem with tabs -- they're lining up as they always have.

Thanks tremo. I've done everything I can think of: Trashed preferences, caches, any Firefox file I could find, disabled extensions and themes, etc. Reinstalled, no joy. Brave, here I come.

I’m seeing this same thing in Safari. It seems to be associated with a specific web site. Does this happen when you open a specific site that might have been recently updated, or before that? If it is a specific site, does that open OK with Chrome?

Not seeing it in Safari or any other browser. It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular site. Works fine in Chrome. I can have ten or more tabs open, and all I see is that bracketed sliver of a tab. Very strange, and this was before I did the Monterey 12.6.2 and the Safari 16.2 update. I wonder if this has something to do with another browser that auto-updates (Chrome, I'm looking at you).

I've wondered how many developers have been thorough in checking whether their sites work well with all browsers (i.e. conform to HTML5). I've heard from some developers that they had only check for Chrome, and so I should just use Chrome and not try to access their site with Safari. I expect however many don't bother checking with Safari, it would be even more that don't bother checking with Firefox.

Well, I fixed it by deleting my User>Library>Application Support>Firefox>Profiles. It got tabs back, and now it'll take a bit of work to get everything back the way it was.
