Motu 828 mk3 hybrid - very low volume

Hi folks.

I'm using a Motu 828 and having some issues with very low volume on the output. When I use it as the output for my windows machine, into a passive monitor controller, into 2 amped speakers, the volume is low even with the monitor level and system volume cranked to full.

When I use the system as a mixer - plugging in inputs into the front, and using the mixes to send them to outputs - the volume is louder.

I've tried going straight into the speakers and still get the same results.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I tried searching and couldn't find any direction.
