Waves v. 14 crashing Sibelius 22.5 on OS 12.4

Post by joelfriedman »

Is anyone having issues with Waves v. 14 and Sibelius? I upgraded to OS 12.4, did my WUP and went to Waves v. 14 and it works with DP 11.1 BUT I can no longer use Sibelius Ultimate 22.5 at all for notation as the ONE plugin that blows it up is Waves (WaveShell1-AU 13.3.component and WaveShell1-AU 14.0.component). If I take them out of my Component folder Sibelius works perfectly. As soon as I put them back in *BOOM*. I've talked to extensively to Avid Sibelius and followed their suggestions of deleting certain files to no avail. Only taking Waves out of my Component folder worked. Their final comment was: "Thank you for the updates. Apparently this issue is out of SIbelius' scope. Waves is only meant for Digital Audio Workstations that is why it won't work with Sibelius well. And since we are not trained to do any workaround about this issue, except for the one we've done during our remote session, and the plugins are not from Avid, we cannot go further beyond escalation. I also asked around and there is nothing we can do except for the one we've done with Sibelius. I know this is frustrating on your part but this is the best I can do for now."

Surely there has to be another Mac person running OS 12.4 on Intel using Sibelius and having Waves plugins on their machine. Or there must be another person having this problem. Waves works fine with Digital Performer. W/out Waves Sibelius and DP work fine, I just can't use Sibelius and Waves. I don't even WANT Waves in Sibelius, I don't need it, but I can't make it not load to only Sibelius. I am faced with dragging those files in and out of my Component folder.

Thoughts?

AVID takes their sweet time getting current. This goes for ProTools as well.

Seriously?? Wow, thank you. I'm not crazy (maybe). I don't know enough but kinda thought that PT used a different plugin format so maybe there wasn't the issue for AU/VST. Insane that there isn't a workaround. Maybe next year. I guess I'll just "strategically" plan which apps I'm using and in what order so I can pop the Wave Shells in and out...

Much appreciated Mike!

Just heard from Waves and it's the same story. I found a "hole" between software companies and I guess there's no solution at the moment. Looks like I'm reserving the Waves Shells for when I'm using DP only and need Waves plugins. Otherwise I'll have to keep them in the Components (unused) folder so they don't load. Just crazy. Maybe someone will update something and it will work in the future. Or maybe not. :shake:

"Please note thatSibelius Ultimate 22.5 is not officially supported with Waves latest software version.
This does not necessarily mean that it won't work, just that our software was not designed for it nor tested and qualified to run with it.
Due to this fact, we do not have a knowledge base of possible issues. It might work fine, but if it doesn't we will not be able to assist."

I guess what bothers me about this is both companies acting like "we've never heard of *that* software and *no one* uses it, so don't expect us to fix it." Yeah, Captain Obvious spitting into the wind here, but really? No one using Sibelius does digital audio and might have Waves plugins in their system? No one using a DAW with Waves also does notation via Sibelius? Really? Makes me think harder about moving to Dorico sooner, but then I have 20 years of scores in Sibelius so I'll still need to access them.

Lordy...
