M4 input noise?

Post by tvbcristt »

Hi! I know that the two mic inputs provide quite a lot of gain, but I'd like to know if it's normal...in the image you can see that if I set the gain past 4 o'clock (and it is not crancked all the way up) there's a lot of noise coming from the input meters (and I can hear that in my DAW). This is happening as you can see with no mic connected but it's just the same with a xlr cable and mic inserted. Is it all good?? Does your M4 do the same?
My system is laptop HP zbook i7 with Windows 10.

If I'm reading the switches and knobs correctly, you are seeing the input from your PC.

If that's not it, we need more information.

Try unchecking/disabling 'Use lowest latency safety' in the M4 control panel.

nope, it's just the front inputs 1 & 2 level metering (apparently they work even with no cable/mic/instrument inserted).

Does it anything change when you rotate the In/Out balance counterclockwise?

I just contacted the Motu support via chat and they say it's just the regular noise floor of the unit....so it's normal :|
but I just wanted to compare with someone else's M4 here...

I get one bar on the meter with the gain full tilt and quite a bit of noise in DP with a track record enabled for input one or two ~-48db. I also start to get noticeable noise just after a one o'clock setting, but nothing on the meters. That's with the output volume full on. In my previous post I misunderstood what was the issue.

If you plug 2 48V mics and turn them on, does the noise is still there ??
