DP 11.11 and Finale 27.2 for Mac

Post by faonfaon »

Hi,

I would like to use Rewire with Finale and DP.
But in DP, I cannot see Finale in Input.
And in Finale I cannot set up rewire.

Any ideas ?

Thank you !

François

Rewire has been depreciated for a few years now. Propellerhead is now Reason Studios and the RW plugins are no longer available.

DP has not supported Rewire since 10 though there are instructions for using it with Core Audio, MasOS only but it's somewhat crippled and works one direction only Finale can send; DP can receive but not the other way around. There was some leftover RW code that was causing problems in 11.01 and MOTU removed it along with the Core Audio instructions.

Apple apps no longer instal RW components and recent updates to GarageBand, Logic and Main Stage now remove it.

So, Rewire is dead and for Windows users, that's it.

But there's good news for the Mac if you can work within the limitations. Finale still installs the necessary components and it can act as the Master. DP now functions as Slave only.

I have Finale 27 working with DP 11.11 on my M1 Mac and my iMac Pro over Monterey 12.4. Core Audio still supports Rewire; DP doesn't have to. It supports Core Audio and that's why it works as it does. I'm a Finale beta tester and was quite surprised to get it working on my M1.

I've posted screen shots and instructions on the Finale support forum but those can be hard to find. I've appointments this morning and am out of time but I'll post the screen shots you need to see later today.

What kind of Mac do you have — Intel or M1? If M1, you must run Finale over Rosetta 2 before NotePerformer 3 works. This doesn’t affect DP but I’ll post screen shots from the M1 if that’s what you have.

During the last beta, I concentrated on RW and NP issues, letting everyone else concentrate on the rest of it.

These screen shots should be self-explanitory. Let's see if they load in the order I want.

Ok, it only likes 3 at a time. No matter.

The first one shows Auto Detect — this finds everything which usually works but with a multi-stave score can be a mess.
The second shows Auto Detect off and then I select DP from the drop-down menu.

I usually have 3 screens going. I put DP and Finale together so that you can see Finale playing back while DP 11.11 is recording.

Mac users can do this without any Rewire components except those that Finale installs since Monterey 12.1. Windows users require older DAWs that support Rewire plus they need to find the depreciated plugins from Propellerhead.
