I Need To Rescan the AU VIs and Plug-ins

Post by buzzsmith »

Hi, all!
Long time, no see...

Anyway something happened today and DP is not seeing ANY of my AU VIs or plugins.

They are not even showing in the Preferences>Audio Plug-ins list. Only MAS and some never enabled VSTs.
So there appears to be no way to re-examine when there are no AUs in the list to re-examine?

Is there some other way to re scan? Like maybe trash a preference or something along that line?
I did, of course, try relaunching DP and two reboots.

Thanks very much!

Hi Buzzy,

Open Preferences/Audio Plugins and you should see the button to reexamine.
If you wish to reexamine a plug-in or plug-ins, select the desired plug-ins and press the Reexamine button.
What isn't made clear is that you have to hilite them before the button works. If none are showing, more instructions are found on pg 916 of the User Guide (DP 11) or search the one you have for reexamine plug-ins to find the correct page.

Except they say
They are not even showing in the Preferences>Audio Plug-ins list.
Sounds more like the AU’s got moved inadvertently to somewhere they oughtn’t be or something.

buzzsmith, can you confirm your AUs are in the system level Components folder? So, Mac HD > Library > Audio > Plugins > Components as mine are...and where they belong I think.

Is the system shown your signature up-to-date?

I think sometimes whether DP is in 32-bit or 64-bit mode can affect whether plugins appear or not.

Did you find the plugin components on your Mac as Dix suggested?

You might try saving your preferences file, then reinstalling DP if all the components are still where they should be. After reinstallation of DP, test to see if your plugins show up. If all appears well, try replacing the newly-created DP Preferences with your saved Preferences. If all is still good, you should be back where you started.

Good luck!

Sorry! I just saw this.
(I thought I had notifications turned on when a reply was posted.)

Yes, Dix. there are 545 items in the Components folder.

Thanks.

I think so, stubbsonic.

Mike, I found that page in my 9.52 manual but it is only showing the reexamine option for items that are actually currently showing up within DP in the Preferences>General>Audio Plug-ins list. Only MAS and (unused) VSTs are available.

Thanks,

Buzzy

To determine whether DP is running in 32 or 64 bit mode, Get Info on the DP app in the Finder and see if the 64-bit box is checked.

Just a shot in the dark here, but make sure that the plug-in called "MAS Audio Unit Support" didn't get unchecked somehow in the Plug-Ins preferences. If it's unchecked, none of your AU plug-ins will load.

Thanks, James.

I did check that earlier today and even tried disabling and re-enabling to no avail.

Appreciate it!

I checked and it's indeed running in 64 bit.

I do remember there is a prefs file you can delete which forces a rescan of ALL plug ins. Don’t remember exactly which file that is, however. Not in front of studio computer so can’t check at the moment.

I basically posted this same question in the MOTU Digital Performer group on FB.

One guy is pretty convinced that an Apple automatic update is what crashed the Audio Units on 10.11.6.

This is what I'm showing within the past four days.
(I did disable the auto-update feature earlier today.)

Of course he does.

There is an old issue with plug-ins that affected a MacOS and it involved having an iPhone. Apple resolved it quickly but it affected a few people around here. Since I was one of those who wasn’t affected, I don’t remember any of the details nor even how to search for those old threads but somebody should.. I don’t think it was El Cap but maybe it was.
