Dear Izotope, RE: Product Portal

Post by James Steele »

For crying out loud... please quit the cute thing where Command+Q doesn't actually QUIT your Product Portal but simply closes the window leaving your logo up in the menu bar! Don't make me have to click the upper left application menu to truly QUIT your Product Portal. I want to run it on occasion and check for updates. I don't want it to stay in the background after I Command+Q. Thanks.

I can understand some non-standard approaches found within software one might use on a daily basis, but an installer? No thank you.

I first encountered this about a year ago. I wrote them about it and they denied knowing anything about it, but said they would look into it. I guess that's your answer. :smash:

I have not seen this issue. When I close the screen, the app quits.

It updated to v. 1.45 today. No changes that I can see.

Not seeing that here. COMMAND-Q (mac) quits it entirely.

Just checking, James. You did mean command-Q, right?

Yes. I meant Command + Q. I’ll edit my original post.

Not for me. It leaves an Izotope logo in my menu bar. Not in front of my Mac now, but if I use the mouse to Quit I can see in the menu that there is no key command next to the Quit item… Command+Q closes the main window but does not terminate the app.

I’ll check that on my Mojave drive today. Working as it should over Monterey.

Maybe it’s a Mojave thing. It’s a minor annoyance.

Could it be there is a keyboard shortcut preference in macOS specific to this app that uses cmd-q? Makes no sense to do this, but it could be done.

I was wondering if, after some update, after quitting the portal, it leaves some installer open-- that you have to quit separately.

I can quit it using the mouse.

Not that this helps Mac folks at all, but the Izotope portal stays loaded in the background when you close the window on PC. You need to right-click it in the system tray to quit (equivalent of right side of Mac menu bar). They may be extending this design choice to the Mac. It hasn't always been this way - started a few months back.

Command q closes the portal window but does not quit the app. You can see this in the screen shot.

Even worse, it shows Command Q which is really Command Shift q — this offers to close all applications.

Some idiot has let the Win programmers into the Mac side. You'd think that this was Dropbox. I'm filing a support request and will include the screen shot.
