828x as adat passthrough for 828es/16a

Hey i've just buyed a 828x. I want to use it only as an adat expansion for my 828es/16a combo.
I've read the manual but can't seems to get how to make it works.
Here is what i have so far

0. The 828x isnt connected by USB anymore
1. I've connected it via adat to my 828es. (So 828x <-Adat-> 828es)
2. I've selected clock source as adat optical A on the 828x
3. I've selected same sample rate and sample buffer in 828x
4. I've selected optical in/out A/B as adat optical in 828x
5. In 828es i have my adat connection there from a previous configuration which worked. But i dont even see signal coming when i send stuff to the 828x inputs. It shows on the interface front panel but not in the 828es discovery matrice routing.

6. I've double checked that its connected right and it is.
7. When i send audio from my daw to 828es to 828x via adat i see on the 828x front panel that the adat A blink. But i dont see the analog out blinking on the 828x front panel.
Not sure where to go from there..

Not sure how i can get 8in/out from/to the 828x by adat the manual doesnt go at length with this

You need to create a mix in Cuemix on the 828x that routes the analog in to the ADAT out. Like this:

You can dial it in from the front panel, but it's easier to do this via Cuemix with the 828x connected to the computer. Disconnect when configured.

How many channels of input can i get with adat ? There are 8 inputs on the soundcard and 8 output but i've read i can get 16 inputs in the manual not sure how and why.

but it still doesnt send anything to my 828es.

I dont really get it because i should be able to get 8in of adat and 8 out of adat this interface isnt that old..
