Nope, didnt work.
It's been fine for days, and now it 's going out for a few seconds every few minutes.

Yep, I thought I had solved it. Mine was working fine for quite a while and just started acting up again yesterday. Sorry for the false hope.

Not to worry Phil. Win some, lose some.

So, it's possible that it might still be a connection problem. I noticed that I can force the issue by wiggling the connector. I cleaned the contacts with some DeoxIt and it's been holding up. With the highly intermittent nature of this problem it's difficult to say for certain, though. I may spring for the Belkin cable that Mike H suggested earlier and give that a try. $30 at the Apple store. Time will tell.

Re: Mac mini monitor strangness
Phil, have you tried changing the "Refresh Rate"? I read someplace to give that a try and so far it's cured the HDMI monitor, which was blacking out once in a while. Of course the problem has been intermittent, so it's hard to know yet but fingers crossed.
I only have one choice of refresh rate on the secondary monitor (which still doesnt light up at start up, but I'll live with that) so nothing to try there.

Yes, I've tried everything I can think of, including every suggestion I could find on the interwebs. Working fine now for a couple days since the DeoxIt treatment, and since the cleaning I can no longer force the problem by wiggling the connector. I guess that's a good sign but I won't start smiling 'til I reach the month or two mark.

Re: Mac mini monitor strangness
According to Apple's release notes, macOS Monterey 12.3.1 addresses a bug that could cause USB-C or Thunderbolt external displays to not turn on when connected to the 2018 Mac mini as a secondary display.
