Cannot connect ADAT with DIGI 003, DIGGI 002, Saffire Pro 40

Post by bertrandp »

Hi folks,

I have been trying for more than 2 weeks to add 8 in ADAT from my Digi 003 card. I succeeded by buying a Digi 002 connected to optics but I cannot record with more than 44 kHz.

I then bought a Focusrite Saffire pro 40, now I can't even get an ADAT connection. I added the right drivers for the Saffire, I used it as a primary card, it works but I have a lot of glitches but at least the card is connected. I then tried to connect one of my DIGI 0003 or 002 with the optical wire and I didn't get any connection.

Is this a clocking problem?

As soon as I change it in my Configure Hardware / Clock source and set it to ADAT I get this Error message (An invalid parameter was passed to the Asio Driver. ASIODriverWrapper.h, 159). Otherwise when I click on the Configure Driver button and select ADAT from the drop-down menu, the program crashes every time.

I honestly don't know what to do anymore. It is certain that I have old cards but the budget does not give me the choice. Digital Performer V10.11.83650.

Can anyone help me? :(

Easiest is to use the 003 as the master interface. I don't know if the Saffire has a standalone mode which routes analog inputs to ADAT outs, but anyway connect two ADAT cables to in and outs. Call up the Saffire mix console and route analog ins to ADAT outs (if needed) and set the Saffire to clock to ADAT. In order to use the Saffire mix console the FW will need to be connected also. The Saffire analog inputs should now be carried on the 003 ADAT in. If you want something easier, sell the 002 and 003 and get a Behringer ADA8200 to use as an extender to your Focusrite. You'd still be limited to 44.1 and 48k.

Thanks CharlzS,

When you saying the Digi will be the master, do you mean this is the unit that will connected through Firewire and the Saffire will be set to Slave?

Both units will be connected to FW. If the Focusrite keeps its configuration without being connected, you can disconnect after configuring.
