Motu M2 keeps needing to be restarted

Post by jkmcameron »

Windows 10, firmware and driver are both up-to-date, every 20 minutes or so the audio out (but not audio in) completely drops out and I have to turn the unit off and back on again via the switch in the back

Update, turning it off and back on again no longer fixes it and now only a restart fixes it, unusable

What happens when you unplug and re-plug the USB cable at the computer?

I have tried plugging it into each of my motherboards USB ports, this will return sound out the headphone jack temporarily but after 20ish minutes the audio breaks again

I just got an 8A a couple of weeks ago and have a similar issue. Although it's not every 20 minutes, its more like when I leave my computer idle for a couple hours and come back to it. I'm able to fix it just using the reboot command in the web control center, so it's not the end of the world but it is pretty inconvenient. I'm on Windows 10 pro, and the unit is in USB2 mode despite being connected to a USB3 port directly on the motherboard's chipset bus. I have read there are some issues with USB3 only working with certain chipsets so I may try a PCI-E card, but I'm not sure if that is related to the issue or not. Otherwise performance and latency are fine on USB2 for now. Just wondering if there is something I'm missing in Windows that is causing the similar issue.

The M2/M4 are USB 2. If plugged into a USB 3 port that did not also support USB 2, it would not work at all.

USB-C is a port only and no indicator of the protocol.
