iZotope RX9 Advanced Upgrade vs RX Pro subscription.

Post by mikehalloran »

iZotope been trying to get me to "upgrade" to their Pro subscription for a long time now: $199. Well RX9 Advanced came out a couple days ago — that and RX Post Production Suite Upgrade 6 are priced the same for me if I buy by Oct 31: $149 from my account. This is the first time I've ever seen it less expensive to upgrade from my iZotope account than Sweetwater. Ok… Time to talk.

It turns out that the RX Pro module does not have all the tools contained in RX Advanced and there are no plans to include them. Really? Well, that just saved me $50.

Since I have RX Post Production Suite already, I went with the upgrade to 6 since the price is the same. Unfortunately, the only difference between 5 and 6 is the inclusion of RX 9A instead of RX8A. There are extra tools that I already have including Insight 2 and the ones that require Pro Tools. I suppose I'll get a similar offer when Ozone 10 Advanced and Music Production Suite drop. Sheesh! :banghead:

Thing is that I'd gladly pay a reasonable subscription to keep current on all the tools that I actually use.

Over the years through various discontinued bundles and sales, I’ve come to own every tool that iZotope makes. My “special offers and upgrades” and how this all plays out with the overlaps in different bundles is a confusing mess.

Yep. At least I found out before buying a subscription that I don’t need for a product that can’t do what I already have.

On the bright side, when I put it in my cart and didn’t finish immediately, up popped a discount so I saved another seven bucks. Then this morning, I got a 25% voucher to the NI store that I might actually use.

We’ll see…

Hey Mike, did I mis-read that voucher? I thought thew NI discount was $25, not 25%. I think I saved a copy somewhere, as it's good for a bit longer. I did look at the NI site and didn't see anything that currently tempts me that I don't already have, unless marked down 50% or more.

I think RX9 was released earlier this week; my life is crazy right now so my sense of time is all off. I just know I installed it and quickly launched it as a sanity check, immediately noticing a snazzier interface and the long-overdue presence of horizontal scrolling.

Whoah, people are talking on GS about $49 for the upgrade. I paid $267 after several coupons and loyalty vouchers were applied. But that was for the Pro version, going from V7 to V8 with V9 as a free upgrade from V8.
