DP11 and Softube Console 1

Post by James Steele »

I know better integration with certain third party controllers was mentioned as an enhancement for DP11. Does anybody know if Console 1 support has been improved. I've had my eye on getting one for a long time now but have been holding back pending this.

For full DAW control (volume, pan, send, solo mute) Console 1 needs VST3 and only a few DAW's are supported. Softube have not yet implemented the power of VST3 Console 1 on DP and only works with AU plugin format. An interesting aspect is that Console1 have full support on Cubase but limited in Nuendo (as well as in DP) and both just use the same VST3 plugin.. :?:

James,

Console 1 in DP has track name/number integration and mute and solo button control.
There is no fader, pan, or send control yet. With that said, everything (buttons & knobs) on Console 1 are automatable.
If you have UAD plugins, most of them can be controlled by the hardware; same goes for a lot of Softube's plugins.
I love the flexibility of the software; you can customize and mix and match compressor's & eq's on your channel strips. The SSL 4K emulation is really good. IMHO, the only emulation that I thinks is a bit better is Plugin Alliance's version. I have Console 1 with the Fader addition and I'm really happy with it.
In my DP sessions, I just leave my DP faders at -3db and do all my fader automation moves on the C1 Faders.
Hopefully, DP will have bi-directional control with C1 soon; I've been asking for this for years...
However, when I use it in Studio One, bi-directional control works perfectly. I just prefer to use DP.

I went ahead a bit the bullet and ordered a Console 1 Mk II from Sweetwater. It arrives Monday.

:woohoo:
Here is working fine on Console1 mkII !. Control of fader, pan, solo, mute are working as expected. Send 1,2, and 3 volume buttons have a stranger (?) behaviour but also are working. Thank's MOTU!
Pd. Mac users, don't forget uncheck Console1 AU plugin and check Console 1 VST3 in Preferences window  . At this moment I have also checked Softube console emulations VST3 versions

Do you need to run the VST3 versions or can you run the AU if you want?

I don't know about potential conflicts between Softube AU format plugins loaded on host Console1 in VST3 format. I have experience with Console 1 VST3 (both host and plugin) in Cubase and it really works nice. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd recommend don't mix VST3 with AU. They are very different arquitectures. In the coming weeks I'll do tests.

Wow!! Thank you sooo much MOTU...

I think Console One is now fully implemented!

As buhardilla says all normal functions are now working .....brilliantly ….as hoped for… Wow again ( :

The Sends feel fine to me on both Console One and Fader Control…

James … do uncheck the AUs…. it’s only the VST3 that work fully… I feel you will really love it… can’t wait to hear what you think ( : I’m now thinking about a second Fader Control unit

This is a really fab and welcome Softube implementation upgrade… and I really appreciate it MOTU

Thanks so much again

Cool! I was just wondering if you had to go ALL VST3 or the plug that’s needed for control and not the actual compressors. Maybe I’ll use the MAS versions? Just kidding!! :)

I haven’t ordered the Fader unit… yet. I have an old Euphonix MC Control that has four faders that I got cheap a year or two ago and I may see how that combo works for while while I get used to Console 1. I typically don’t use more than a couple faders at once so I may get by for a while. I got the MC Control as sort of an overkill replacement for my old AlphaTrack.

I have an MC Control and MC Mix and have enjoyed them… to a point. They have a lot going for them... OLED track names are nice…. and it’s extremely powerful to assign key commands to Soft Keys according to how you like to work

But even before MOTU gave us this update I personally was happier with the Softube approach… It attempts to create a real mixing desk environment… Each channel is immediately there to hand with all normal channel processors in place…. From channel input level, hi pass/low pass filters …. all the way through EQ, dynamics, transient shaping, output drive and character, panning, solo, muting … volume! ( :

The Console One MkII is the first unit most users would want… . see how you feel about adding a bunch of faders later… way to go

If you use UAD plugs or hardware it gets better… You can place many of them directly into any channel strip you like… replacing the default section model eg SSL 4000 EQ with an alternative UAD plug that you’d prefer in that channel eg Manley, Helios, Pultec EQs etc etc… it’s very cool… If you use UAD Apollo hardware you can also use Console to control that

However the regular channel strips available through Softube usually cover most of it for me

It’s the first hardware controller system I’ve tried that gets close to a mixing desk-esque experience … no mousing….no screen fixation ….And now with the new (full?) Console implementation it’s really just a matter of getting better facility on the hardware with a little more practice ….

It really works ( :

My only request now would be directed to Softube… To give the next hardware editions OLED track name displays…. it’d be great to see the track names right there on the controller…bigger status LEDs….but I’m quibbling

Happy days here

I agree. It would probably add a couple hundred bucks to the cost of the unit though. It's an amazing piece of gear for just over $500 bucks. I also have a Liquid Mix that I've been keeping alive with 32 Lives, but once I get the Console 1, I'm wondering if it might be time to jettison the Liquid Mix. Only reason for keeping it around perhaps is the DSP is onboard the Liquid Mix from what I understand.
