Dangerous Key Commands

Post by Rick Cornish »

Has anyone else been tripped up when Bouncing to Disk (Control>J) by mistakenly hitting Command>J (Snip) instead and watch your track disappear?

Not that specifically, but others. Does anyone else have an hysterical inner voice that shouts "COMMAND-Z!! COMMAND-Z!!" whenever something precious vanishes from sight?

I always immediately change commands in DP that conflict with my brain. There's some downsides to changing DP's defaults, but this flexibility is especially useful to avoid mission-critical errors.

My pet DP key-command peeve is the Option modifier behavior for Soloing and Play Enabling. Option-click on Play-enable in Solo mode you solo the track (something useful I do constantly). Option-click on Play-enable while not in Solo mode you turn off all tracks, showing or hidden, in all folders in the entire project. And you can't Command-Z your way out of it. You have to immediately force quit DP (before auto-save kicks in) and open the project from the latest versions that had the correct Play-enabled state. ...sry. MN has numerous threads where I whine about this, but my pet needs to be fed when the subject comes up.

Can't say I have but I never, ever BTD without saving first. Old habit from the bad old days when crashing during BTD was the first warning sign of a bad stick of RAM. In fact, the symptom was so reliable that, whenever it happened, I always found the bad stick.

Old habits die hard.

Old habits die hard indeed. My first MIDI setup was a Syntech system with two C64s (one for sequencing, one for patch library). Got used to saving after EVERY operation.

BTD has always had such bad press here that I don't use it often enough to know the key command. My templates are usually set up to record directly in real time into audio tracks.

But it sounds like fun.
