True. Not fugly, just not too sharp. Some themes, like the more recent ones (>9) are worse. No one be scared!

Come to where the flavor is!:

Niresh has mutated to hackintoshshop_dot_com, it seems the guy closed shop, and transferred assets. In a way, I find it more organized and easy, the guides are there, downloads, utilities, everything, actually I got myself a stick to put their High Sierra Hack hoping to try an upgrade on one SSD.

I mirror disks with SuperDuper!, is about as simple as it can get, and then some, have a third backup in a portable USB, as it makes all backups bootable, USB boots as a normal OSX and mirrors back if needed.
I do plan to build another machine, I am collecting data to decide on open core or whatnot, OC looks kinds of convoluted, although documentation is quite good, maybe Ill give it a go.

OK so I edited my previous post, too many good things about DP to rant about some fonts, and motu might be working on that as well.

I added a bit about ASIO link pro (multi-client audio) to my original post. Happy to report so far so good- especially after settling into using VST2 as a plugin standard across my machines/platforms.

A few other handy Windows utils and apps that may interest someone:

Some very useful utilities such as Autoruns and TCPView:

Good system optimize option along with cleaning and defragmenting registry:

Easy access to several Windows settings:

Useful iso handler and other CD formats:

Analyze your and any neighboring WiFi:

Anyone questioning the performance of external USB session and/or backup drives:

I've found a significant bump in drive performance with this last item. You can test by doing a large file copy to the external drive before and after changing setting. YMMV

Some more fun stuff from isolation. Anyone experimenting with the Affinity setting in Win10? I excluded one processor core (2 virtual cores) from usage in DP and it appears that processor usage is less spikey when the system has one processor free to use. This could just be some kind of bias, but maybe worth a try if your processor usage is jumping around.

Here's a batch command I created in a file StartDPAffinity.cmd:

Code: Select all

start /HIGH /AFFINITY 0xFC C:\"Program Files"\MOTU\"Digital Performer 10.11"\DP.exe
The /HIGH starts in high priority and /AFFINITY hex entry 0xFC tells the system to use core 3-8 leaving core 1-2 to other tasks (0xFC == 11111100 binary - 1 for use core, 0 for no). You can figure the hex entry using the Win 10 Calculator in Programmer Binary mode. Start with the highest core number (including virtual cores) with 1 for on, 0 for off. It will show your binary number in hex up top. If anyone's bored, give it a shot. Some of the PT community swears by it.

Also got tired running updates on all my plugs. Since most now provide update managers it's easy to run everything from a batch file every couple of weeks. Here's the contents of an Updates.cmd file I created:

Code: Select all

start C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Arturia\"Arturia Software Center"\"Arturia Software Center.exe"
start C:\"Program Files"\KORG\"KORG Software Pass.exe"
start C:\"Program Files"\"Native Instruments"\"Native Access"\"Native Access.exe"
start C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Toontrack\"Toontrack Product Manager.exe"
start C:\"Program Files (x86)"\"UVI Portal"\"UVI Portal.exe"
start C:\"Program Files"\"Waves Central"\"Waves Central.exe"
start C:\"Program Files"\Flux\FluxCenter.app\Contents\x64\FluxCenter-x64.exe
start C:\"Program Files (x86)"\iZotope\"Product Portal"\win32\"iZotope Product Portal.exe"
If you run the batch file as administrator it will bypass any UAC prompts if you have your machine locked down.

Excellent. This is super interesting. I'm actually more interested in trying with bitwig (which spikes) on my laptop. Gotta dig into what the hex binary array setting if for one core. Found more info here:

I give up (again) and retreat to running my system as a hackintosh after a minor windows update killed most of my waves and PSP plugins' GUIs (again):

http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 31&t=68115

I guess I'm an idiot for letting windows update itself but if an incremental update can do this much damage to DP's VST hosting functionality I hate to think of what a major one would do.

My last ditch troubleshooting including ending every task that had to do with displays, rolling back monitor drivers, pulling my graphics card and using integrated graphics, changing my bios aperture settings, trying different monitors and resolutions, re-installing DP. I'm done.

Though DP on windows is workable to varying degrees and others have been able to use it without issue my experience has been horrible. Waves will not support the VST plugin format in DP, and now with my PSP plugins acting the same way <EDIT:(on my desktop and laptop including issues with Soundtoys)> this puts the issue squarely in MOTU's court and they have been unresponsive. I'm not willing to find out what went wrong again and again. This is just too much of a PITA, too unreliable, a total bummer and my patience is at its end for now. I tried. I wish there was more of a DP user base on windows to motivate these companies. I've heard others gripe and now unfortunately, for now, I'm part of that chorus of misery. :banghead: :deadhorse:
