DP Gone Wild

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

One project only as far as I can tell, but in that one project I cannot use the search feature under the help menu. I get the response below. Thew program freezes up. THe Finder reports it as not responding, but before I can hit force quit, it clears up. I can go back and work, but I still cannot access the search feature. Other projects are fine. This one has very little data. Only a few short scene sketches (no VI's, only external piano). No soundbites. I only use it to playback a movie I'm scoring in Finale (57 minutes, wall to wall orchestration). Fun!

Anyway... this part sucks. Anyone see this before? I'll search the forum after posting.

Hey MLC,
That's really weird!
I'm embarrassed to say that I have never used that search function.
I just tried it in a couple of projects and it works fine.
Easy for me to say.
Weird that it just malfunctions in one specific project.
Hope somebody can help diagnose it.
Hoping for a swift solution.
All is well

Haven;t seen this issue either... have you tried loading the troublesome sequence into a fresh project?

Thanks, guys. That will be the first order of business today. This cropped up just as. I was ending a very long session. But again, very little data in DP. Just movie playback and a few short MIDI Tracks. I’ll let ya know what I find.

Have DP and OS's Console next to each other. What happens the instant you want to access the faulty search function... Does Console report anything useful?
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

The plot thickens, and the culprit is... still at large. However, he/she/it may never be found.

I opened up a few different projects before testing the bad boy. Search worked fine. However, the project in question continued to GO WILD when you started a search via the HELP menu. In another thread i posted to, with what appeared to be related problems, Halloran mentioned PDFs. This occurred to me as well so I started going past the ENTRY dialogue box and accessed the various PDFs (manual, Getting started, etc.). They work fine. I went back to the SEARCH box and, praise be to the great Unicorn

:unicorn: "that's me" said the emoticon... it is working again.

I'm going to assume that for whatever reason, this file lost its path to the help files. Pulling up the manual, apparently, reconnected the search feature back to the resource.

I'm going to let it stay like this (IOW - not re LOAD the chunk into a new project) and see what happens. If there was important data in there, I would do that, but as it's only for movie playback, I'm not concerned and I'm interested to see if it happens again.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I wasn't aware of using the console the way FM suggested, so special thanks for that!

UPDATE - I closed DP and reopened it and it's doing the same thing. LOADED the sequences into a new project. Solved. Annoying, but solved.

Thanks again, kids.

I've narrowed the problem down quite a bit. This happens whenever there is a movie in any project. I've tried many movies and the results are the same. Any DP 10.11 project with a movie will not allow access to the search menu item. Same results in DP 10.0. MOTU has a tech link.

Could this one be traced back to weird camera app interaction, like the Movie Window Mini Menu thing that CamTwist and other apps messed up?

Film at 11... if you can get the darn thing working right!

Yeah, HC, that is exactly what I'm thinking. I don't remember exactly what was installed for all this streaming work, but I know some apps have been installed. I'd bet one of them is to blame.

MOTU already got back to me and had me delete the DP plist folder. I had tried that first, to no avail. Back to the grind.

No, I haven't capt. but that may be in the cards. Still trying to avoid that as all else seems to be working. I can always call up the manual PDF in Acrobat or Preview. Or I can do what some folks do and not bother. I'll just post my question here w/o any research on my end.

BTW, where does DP keep MegaHit plugin?
