suddenly, panning doesn't seem to work

I'm on 9.51

All of a sudden, my panning doesn't seem to work. This is on tracks that I've been working on for awhile. They definitely weren't like this before.

Ideas?

Mono Folddown selected on the Master fader? Does your audio output device have a mono button?

We needs lots more info. For example, my stereo tracks record properly but which way I monitor from my interface when tracking affects if I'm monitoring in mono or stereo—sometimes, I don't have a choice in this.

It's happening with every audio track in the project. When I rotate the pan knob, I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary. The only difference in sound is that it gets a little quieter as I pan full left or right. Center detent is louder. No panning at all.

I tried monitoring with headphones from my interface (828mk3 Hybrid), from the monitor controller (m-patch2), and straight out of the macbook pro. All of these had the same effect.

I did check the master fader for mono folddown (I never even really noticed that was there), and "none" is selected.

I've checked a few different projects, and this is the only one that's doing it.

All were recorded to mono tracks. A couple have stereo inserts that have effectively turned them into stereo tracks. The problem occurs on both.

Plenty of times I’ve felt that way and usually, I end up making the file mono if I can’t get the pan balance, right but I do understand I don’t have an explanation for that quirkiness that does happen in digital performer
