NAMM 2020
So any guesses if MOTU will unveil anything new this year? I don't expect any big announcements regarding DP, but maybe some new hardware?
Steve

Re: NAMM 2020
They have one unannounced event currently titled-
"What's New at NAMM 2020 with Brendan Reza"
So something is being announced. I wouldn't doubt new DP related stuff, but most likely hardware.

Re: NAMM 2020
Looks like there's several interesting MOTU presentations at NAMM.

It always takes a few weeks before anyone to posts videos for some reason. I'd especially like to see David Das's and Steve Steele's presentation....I'd like to see all of them really

Re: NAMM 2020
I for one, whether it is NAMM 2020 (looks like a no thus far), or sometime in 2020, an updated line of audio interfaces sporting Thunderbolt 3.
Universal Audio has them, Presonus's new Quantum 2626, I am sure others will follow...
MOTU has the TB2 624 that was released in late 2016 / early 2017, that was 3 years ago.
The 624, but with Thunderbolt 3, please let's see it soon MOTU and I will come back to MOTU hardware (from Focusrite)...

Re: NAMM 2020
Here's a short overview of Michael Patti's NAMM presentation at the MOTU booth. Again, I really wish MOTU would post video of all the presentations. I don't understand why they don't.

Re: NAMM 2020
Except for being incompatible with earlier devices, what performance benefit do you expect to see from Thunderbolt 3? Actually, there is one possible advantage and that is the amount of current available to bus powered TB3 — if the interface is externally powered, that benefit is gone. The Apple adapter is $29.95 but cannot pass bus power.macnylonguitar wrote:I for one, whether it is NAMM 2020 (looks like a no thus far), or sometime in 2020, an updated line of audio interfaces sporting Thunderbolt 3.

There’s little benefit with USB 3 over the new high speed USB 2 interfaces according to Focusrite:
https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/ ... vs-USB-3-0
Looking at published specs, USB 3 has a theoretical .5ms faster round trip. It’s one reason why I don’t feel like spending the $200–$2,000 more for the barely faster USB spec. or TB3.

Re: NAMM 2020
Yes MIke, I concur that, for folks doing audio, any flavor of Thunderbolt is already overkill. Video is another matter...
