PCI-424 future......

Post by p.pan »

Hi every body,

I have a 2408MK1 plug to the 424 PCI on a Mac Pro 5.1..
If the new Macpro accept the 424 PCI and MOTU do a 64 bit app..
Because of the good latency of the system..

I was thinking why MOTU will do:
An audio-interface (Format Twin):
1. 2x Microphone in.
2. Adat connections.
3. 2x Out (Speaker).
4. A talk back (with button and mic integrated).
5. 2x Headphones Out.
6. Mute button (But not headphones).
7. Stereo/Mono button.
And connected to the 424PCI....

Am I crazy????
MacPro 5.1 6-core 3.33GHz 16GB RAM.
Motu 2408MKI PCIe 424, with Focusrite octopre

Hey mate.

I'm too am hoping MOTU will bring back the PCI option now that Apple's chosen to support it again.

I've been holding out on buying an AVB setup to replace my old PCI-424 one for 4+ years 'cause I know it won't be as stable as what I'm used to. The 324/424 systems I've had over the years have all been rock-solid (100% glitch-free), so in that respect upgrading to AVB will be a step backwards for me.

Fingers crossed. Hopefully someone in-the-know will share what might be on the horizon from MOTU...

Pretend I've placed your favourite quote here

It will be interesting. The problem with PCI support on the Thunderbolt Macs is that Intel had changed the firmware making the 424 card incompatible. Only UAD had a firmware updatable card—one only—and it took them over a year to get it to work in an external TB chassis but they did. MOTU would have had to make a new version of the 424 and chose not to.

Fast forward... I doubt very much that Intel will go backwards and if they don’t, the 424e card is still obsolete. I could be wrong.

We’ll know soon enough,.

Because Thunderbolt is present on all Macs and available on a PCIe card for PCs, MOTU’s interest in the PCI line of interfaces has likely evaporated.
