War March in Constructed Language (using DP and Seaboard)

Post by Prime Mover »

My wife works with fantasy writers and graphic novelists making constructed languages (she's a linguist). She's also a trained opera singer. The two of us have been writing music in her languages, and I've been developing instruments, theory concepts, and notation systems to match. This is an Imperial War March using slide brass, (Inuit-based) frame drums and gongs, recorded using the Roli Seaboard and DP. Here is a very stark music video her singing it.

I've done a number of videos for bands, but this is easily be the most chilling:

Interesting. Is this a one-off or part of a larger project?

Part of a MUCH larger project, but not sure exactly the scope or size. My wife's been constructing languages since she was a teen, and she's now landing jobs with fantasy authors. Her supervisor (in her academic linguistic work) has done work for several Hollywood films, and I figure it's only a matter of time before she starts landing those. Obviously this side of it is private/fun, but we might as well do an album while we're at it.

The music has definitely helped her become a rockstar in the VERY SMALL ConLang community. I'm not saying we're doing this purely for her to get noticed and pick up work, but it definitely helps. it's a shame David Peterson (GameOfThrones, Doth'raki), or Marc Okrand (Star Trek, Klingon), weren't able to make it to the last conference we presented at, they've been there previous years and are obviously major connections.
