Proper way to set up headphone monitoring?

Post by Holiday101 »

I do not have speakers, I monitor via headphones. I want to set up the Audio Setup/CueMix correctly so I can direct monitor the input from a microphone in a podcasting situation. Recording is going into a DAW. I'm a bit confused in that for example I can set default stereo output to Headphones but I can also assign headphones to Main outs. Also I want to avoid any possibility of feedback loops.

Here's a basic tutorial you need to figure out setting up multiple mixes.
Once I started thinking of it like channel busses on a mixing desk it started making sense.

I think I managed to figure out the Audio Setup part though the Main Out Assign I can't see the purpose of, but anyways...

So with phones assigned to Main Out 1-2 I assume that is not direct monitoring and that I need to set phones to Analog 1-2 where my mic is going through input 1. Is this correct?
