If you can get done what you need to get done in 7.24 and 10.6.8, that IS a stable system.
However, I wonder if for security, you might want to stay off-line?
Another approach would be to have a dedicated external boot volume and run 7.24/10.6.8 from the boot volume.
No promotion on Motu to update our softwares??

I didn't say it wouldn't be stable. But nowadays it's very hard to stay offline, unless you're on a completely closed system. I guess that depends on how we work.stubbsonic wrote:Respectfully disagree.

Re: No promotion on Motu to update our softwares??
If you need your computer for both audio and internet use, Snow Leopard is now, I'm sorry to say it again, antiquated. Completely out-of-date browser, lack of security updates... Most softwares now, including audio plugins, use internet activation/verification/authorization, so if you need up-to-date apps and modern software, at some point you have to be online no matter what. That was not necessarily the case in the Snow Leopard days. But it's up to you. If you're comfortable with the idea that this computer doesn't have to be connected to the internet, then fine. Otherwise it could be a frustrating experience. If you go this way, make sure to use the latest version, which was 10.6.8.p.pan wrote:Thanks a lot guys for your time.

Along those same lines, I keep a G4 going with OS 9 and 10.4.11. Although it can connect to the internet, there's no reason to do so. Browsers and networking with my other Macs doesn't work very well if at all.
It makes me a little money converting others' legacy files into something useful for today's OS.

Well, Mike has multiple machines (including a Bosendorfer!) but if you’re essentially working on a single machine and need to keep up with software updates, meet the competition, and work as efficiently as possible, staying up to date on operating systems is kind of a given. I’m usually one OS behind to insure I can keep working without conflicts. But if you’re able to do everything you need to on an Atari 1040ST and that works for you, then I say keep on keepin’ on.

If you act fast (expires 9-24-18), and have good credit, Sweetwater is offering a $50 gift card, if you are approved, which you could then use to purchase the DP upgrade from them. This is the only way I know to get any discount on the standard $195 upgrade fee.

Ditto 2. There are 6 Macs here from a G5 on 10.5.8 to a new Macbook on 10.13.6, soon to go to 10.14, all getting internet access through the same Airport Extreme. An old Mini on 10.6.8 is the only one that "just works" (remember that?), runs 7/24/365 without restarts, and has never tested positive for any sort of malware. There's a PC in here somewhere too, but it's usually powered down. No doubt there is an element of luck here, but when you live in an earthquake zone, the relative levels of risk are more apparent.Tritonemusic wrote:Ditto.stubbsonic wrote:Respectfully disagree.
