Kontakt 5.81 - Certain Instruments Now Omni MIDI Response

Post by HCMarkus »

Got this from NI Forum after some searching. Might save someone here some time:
Ever since updating to Kontakt 5.8.1, I've noticed certain factory instruments - all of them percussion - will receive from all MIDI channels when you first add them to the sampler, much as though they were set to receive from MIDI omni instead of a specific channel... I've been using these instruments for many years and they've never behaved this way by default. Right after updating, I loaded a bunch of the working files for my current project and noticed they were all playing tons of random percussion notes - this turned out to be the cause.

All the offending instruments show their input MIDI channels in the instruments pane as "1 + Groups", "2 + Groups" etc.

I found I can work around the issue by going to the Group Editor -> Edit All Groups -> and then changing the MIDI port in the Source section from "omni" to "MIDI: default".

I'd rather not go back through dozens of my old projects to make this change on every instrument that presents this problem, and it seems like a strange step to have to take in order to have these instruments behave as they used to. Has anyone found a simpler workaround?
Moderator advises "No." The Fix is as bolded above and must be performed on a per-patch basis. This problem is actually a "feature" says the mod... Prior to 5.81, Kontakt was simply not working properly with instruments set up to respond to multiple MIDI channels.

Whatever.

Your pole is showing...

I, and many others, use Kontakt successfully every day. I will concede that it ain't always easy to grok, hence my word to the wise on this issue.

Have a good one neighbor!

hey now !!

I'm still on 5.6xx paranoid about switching to Native access ha ha..

Its working our well, so I figure keep it that way. Until of course a library that specs a more current Kontakt version.

I dunno, NI has more bugs for every iteration more frequently than in the past......

Yessir, that is correct. It’s nice to have a heads-up on stuff like this. I’m not doing much MIDI work right now, but when I do, drums and/or percussion is almost always involved.

This inspired me to launch Native Access and update Kontakt. When I did, I had a rude awakening: having recently moved my sounds to a larger drive, NA wasn’t seeing most of my many Kontakt libraries, and changing the location setting didn’t help. It probably took me an hour to get this straightened out, but I did, and that’s good!

I enjoy the silly posts too.
