UVI library/effects growth seems faster than Kontakt finally

Post by mhschmieder »

Very impressed by all of the recent offerings from UVI and associated vendors, and feel that finally this engine has enough material to go up against Kontakt as a host for libraries that cover the gamut, with more programmability and appropriateness for synthesis (and not just sampling) as well.

As I bought into Falcon when it came out, I'm unfortunately not able to judge where MachFive owners stand regarding new material (I own MachFive v3 but rarely launch it anymore). I think most new UVI offerings are compatible, except for some of the synth-oriented ones that use the synthesis engine that is unique to Falcon.

I used UVI Digital Motion for several tracks on an ambient space theme this past weekend. It layers well without the usual frequency stacking issue when using the same synth; perhaps because it is primarily FM-based.

Just now, I finished downloading the new piano library, based on a 1909 Pleyel model, and including a lot of preparations as well -- equivalent probably to Soniccouture's Xtended Piano library (which I own, but which is based on a Yamaha grand).

I got Falcon also not long ago. Liking it. I've lagged behind on Kontakt. I think I'm still on version 4. :(

I have both, library wise Kontakt still has all the big orchestral companies doing the work for them. You do see a lot more smaller developers using UVI these days which is cool, in a lot of ways I like the interface on Falcon better than Kontakt, even though in some ways they actually managed to make it more complicated to learn than Kontakt.

I transitioned to Falcon during the promotional period for MF3 users.
The UVI Retro Organ Suite gets the most use here. It's good to see their offerings continue to expand.

K11U covers the universe as I know it and much more. Over time, Kontakt has become easier to use, especially the batch configuration for individual instrument outputs.

I'm spending more time right now with HALion 6. The library's relatively small footprint delivers really good sounding sampled and electronic instruments. The built-in sample recorder is a pretty fair replacement for Redmatica's Autosampler.

Interesting; I automatically delete all Logic and HALion library presets any time I buy a new product, so I would never be able to use either product for anything other than the core library.

The newest Kontakt update is a big improvement, regarding library management.

I haven't played much yet with the new Falcon update, which I installed after midnight when I was about to drop from lack of sleep. I think I launched it once and noticed it being bigger than before.
