Relative Controller Change
Is is possible, once a first automation of, say modulation, was recorded, to do a next pass in relative mode, so that that recording doesn't make a sudden jump to whatever the new value of the wheel is but rather simply ads or subtracts the moves?

DP user guide page 798-801. Sounds like you want the trim modes.

Re: Relative Controller Change
What you are talking about doesn't apply to MIDI controllers. I use TRIM on the faders but that is the normal track automation.

Re: Relative Controller Change
I'd be very interested if there is a way to effect trim to MIDI data. Dealing with continuous controllers, even sustain pedals, is one of the biggest challenges in working with MIDI, which otherwise has so many advantage. Organ/String/Wind pedal/modwheel/BC data over punches can be such a pain.supersonic wrote:What you are talking about doesn't apply to MIDI controllers. I generally work with two MIDI tracks when punches are required. Makes smoothing transitions significantly easier.

Re: Relative Controller Change
I wonder if this could be achieved (in a roundabout way) but sending the CC's out to an iPad with either MIDI Designer, or MIDIFire, with either app having some process set up to combine the existing CC stream with the realtime controller and sum/average/scale them in an intelligent way, then return the resulting CC (even as a different CC#, temporarily?) back from the iPad. I have no idea if this is possible, but it seems like those two apps have some muscle for that kind of thing.

This doesn't exactly answer the OP but may be a workaround...stubbsonic wrote:I wonder if this could be achieved (in a roundabout way) but sending the CC's out to an iPad with either MIDI Designer, or MIDIFire, with either app having some process set up to combine the existing CC stream with the realtime controller and sum/average/scale them in an intelligent way, then return the resulting CC (even as a different CC#, temporarily?) back from the iPad. *Theoretically* a custom console in DP should be able to do what Stubbsonic is saying above. Back when I was doing such things though, I ran into bugs doing that sort of thing and unless something has changed it was discussed here that there were definite bugs in Consoles. But, again in theory, I believe that it's possible. Around page 658-659 discusses it.

Re: Relative Controller Change
I am also thinking of motorised faders. Icon for example.

Re: Relative Controller Change
That, or a rotary encoder (that just adds or subtracts from the current state) could work.supersonic wrote:I am also thinking of motorised faders. Icon for example.
A "MIDI Null" display in DP could be a good thing.

Re: Relative Controller Change
I prefer faders for many of the parameters that I would like to automate.
