Re: oldest DP session file that Digital Performer 9 can i
I can still open projects I created in DP 2.x. These were audio only, no MIDI/VIs.
I just tried it now in DP 9.5.
I had problems with many old files in 2010 because I had transferred them to my iMac without using using Migration Assistant or zipping first. The fix was to grant proper Read & Write privileges to my project folders through Get Info.
Otherwise, my only issues are old 3rd party plugins no longer working properly or MOTU plugs that are now part of the Trim plugin in DP 8 - on. All easily fixed.

Wow, that's a gem of a tip! Perhaps you should post it in tips sticky. Thanks Mike.mikehalloran wrote:I had problems with many old files in 2010 because I had transferred them to my iMac without using using Migration Assistant or zipping first. I've opened MIDI files from 1986. It's really kinda fascinating. It opens to the zoom level and window configuration last saved. That means, on my huge monitor, it opens in a tiny area in the top left corner, which is the size of the original 128K/512K Mac's screen. It opens the Event List, because there was no graphic editor back then. Later ones open the Tracks Window, which back then just showed shaded rectangles for bars, and the shade told you if there was data, and how much data in that bar.
I always copy it before I open it, lest something get changed accidentally, and I never save it. I believe I last opened it with DP 9.0. And the best part? It plays!

This forum has been such a big help for me, I thought I'd give back.
If you have trouble opening old DP projects because they were saved on Windows drives or to a Windows/UNIX network share, I wrote up a how-to guide on how to rescue them a few years ago.
The SoundHack executable referred to is at the bottom of this page.
Hope this helps someone - I was also able to go back to Performer-era saves from the late 1980s using this technique.
